Ron Sparks: First Loss Removes Fighter Anxiety

Ron Sparks enters his upcoming Bellator fight against Vitaly Minakov with one significant difference between them. For the first time, Sparks competes knowing how a loss feels. Minakov is undefeated at 10 wins.

“Being undefeated weighs on you and I know where Vitaly’s at,” said Sparks to MMA Junkie. “I’ve been there. Once you get that first loss a lot of that anxiety goes away. Nobody likes to lose and I hate to say it, but it’s awful nice to have that monkey off your back.”

Sparks had three straight first round wins before Eric Prindle knocked him out in the semifinals of the Season 5 heavyweight tournament. He’s 8-1.

Minakov defeated Vladimir Starcencov at Bellator 79 in his debut for the promotion.

They take part in a four person tournament which begins at Bellator 96. It’s June 19 from the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, OK and airs on Spike TV.
