Jake Shields Wants A Top 5 Name Next

Jake Shields is settled as welterweight following a middleweight contest last summer. Yesterday, Shields took the split-decision against Tyron Woodley to cap off the prelims of UFC 161.

“Getting pushed off the main card made me want to go out there and prove something,” said Shields to MMA Fighting. “I was trying to put on an exciting fight. I’ve beaten a lot of these top guys and would love to get back in there with any of the Top 5.”

It was Shields’ return from a suspension though he remained tight-lipped on what substance caused him to fail a drug test. Since losing a championship match with Georges St-Pierre in 2011, he has won two.

Woodley is now 1-1 in his UFC career following time in Strikeforce. He defeated Jay Hieron in under a minute for is UFC debut.
