A few years ago, Roland Delorme was working out of Winnipeg running a pizza shop. Now, he’s less than 24 hours removed since taking the win in his home country. He took a decision against Edwin Figueroa at UFC 161.
“It’s surreal,” said Delorme to MMA Fighting. “I started fighting in Winnipeg and now all of a sudden I’m competing in the UFC in Winnipeg. Honestly, I couldn’t have dreamed about this happening any other way. It’s a dream come true.”
Before joining the UFC in 2011, Delorme fought exclusively in Winnipeg. Of Delorme’s four fights under the UFC banner, two have occurred in Canada and this was the first time he left the victor. He dedicated the win to his family and friends.
Figueroa is 2-3 for the UFC and has lost a pair this year to Francisco Rivera and Roland Delorme.
They opened the FX portion of the preliminary card of UFC 161. It marked the promotion’s debut in Winnipeg and was yesterday, June 15.
