Mitch Clarke vs. John Maguire

The second Facebook prelim will see Mitch Clarke (9-2) take on John Maguire (18-5). Maguire made quite the entrance, coming out to “Flashdance” with cutoff jean shorts and tie-dyed bandanas. The referee will be Jerin Balel.

Round 1: Clarke fires off some nice big rights, as the ref warns the fighters to close their fists. Peppering the front leg with kicks is Clarke, as Maguire isn’t checking anything. Another nearly buckles the leg under the Brit, as Clarke has landed 11 leg kicks in just over a minute. Maguire with some nice lefts that are getting through the defense. And, to no surprise to Joe Rogan, an eye poke gets through and stops the action on Maguire. Another warning to close the fists tight and we are back to action. Clarke has a kimura, but Maguire is in control of his back and launches himself to standing back mount with a minute left. Clarke reverses and lands a knee inside the clinch, followed up by a head kick. Maguire shoots for a single-leg, but is denied.

Round 2: Clarke back to kicking out the lead leg of Maguire, who is moving slowly due to those strikes. Maguire finally scores with a takedown, connecting with some minor ground-and-pound. Clarke searching for a kimura, which the ref says he sees, but tells them to work. Clarke gets to his feet and has Maguire tied up against the fence. Much less entertaining round, but an effective one for Clarke. Maquire scores with a takedown and applies a rear-naked, but the round ends.

Round 3: Clarke the fresher fighter in this round, as his training with UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson appears to be helping. Maguire takes the back, drops down and is seeking a submission. Clarke not allowing Maguire much room to work, positioning himself against the fence on the ground with 100 seconds left. Clarke rolls to the top, gets out and lands some nice big rights to the face.
