The headliner for World Series of Fightng (WSOF) 3 was a quick one as Josh Burkman took the win over Jon Fitch. Burkman was confident heading into the fight, but had no idea he would take the finish in 41 seconds.
“I believe that I have a lot of potential and I’m going get a lot better, but that doesn’t mean I don’t surprise myself sometimes,” said Burkman to MMA Weekly post-fight. “I didn’t expect to stop Jon Fitch in the first round.”
Burkman came out swinging before locking in a guillotine choke on Fitch to end it. Referee Steve Mazzagatti has taken heat for not stopping the fight when Fitch passed out. It was Burkman who released the hold when he felt Fitch go cold.
They are now 1-1, with the first contest seeing Fitch win under the UFC banner in 2006.
