UFC president Dana White didn’t take Jon Fitch’s loss Friday night and rub salt in the wound. Instead, he congratulated the man who submitted Fitch, while also taking a shot at the referee in charge of the action.
Burkman, a former UFC veteran like Fitch, locked in a choke and scored the technical submission victory in the main event of World Series of Fighting 3 Friday night. The win was the fifth straight for Burkman.
The referee, Steve Mazzagatti, failed to stop the bout before Fitch went unconscious, and was called out for it by White. The UFC boss has had issues with the ref for several years.
“Glad Burkman stopped. Mazzagatti is a clueless idiot who will hurt someone and continue to ruin guys legacies,” White wrote. “Much respect Josh.” He later added to his rant, posting, “NSAC needs to seriously do something!! When you have been a ref that long and still don’t know what us r doing its time to go away!!!!!”
Fitch and White have had several verbal battles over the past few weeks regarding fighter pay.
