While it won’t fulfill his wish to compete in Mexico, Cain Velasquez will be heading south for his next title defense.
UFC president Dana White told reporters earlier this week that plans are in place for Velasquez to defend his UFC heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos in October at UFC 166 in Houston.
Velasquez, who won the belt from dos Santos last year, was hoping to compete in Mexico soon. The bout is slated for the Toyota Center.
Dos Santos, also a winner previously over Velasquez, topped Mark Hunt to secure his rematch with the champion.
