Happy Friday, guys and gals. We’ve got a star-studded edition of the roundup to help get your weekend off to a good start. Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos III is set, Jon Jones locks in his next opponent, and Johny Hendricks will have to wait a little bit longer to get in the cage with UFC welterweight champion Georges St Pierre. Here are today’s top stories:
• UFC heavyweight champion Velasquez and #1 contender Dos Santos are expected to throw down this coming October at UFC 166 in Houston. The fight, which is already being referred to colloquially as “the Trilogy”, will likely be one of the most anticipated in UFC history.
• UFC President Dana White confirmed via Twitter that Jones will defend his UFC light-heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson. The match is expected to headline at UFC 165 in September. Gustafsson will no doubt be a heavy underdog going in, but Matt Serra showed us that there’s a reason why the fights don’t happen on paper.
• It was previously reported that St Pierre would defend against Hendricks in October, but that has reportedly been pushed back to by one month. Early reports say the fight could take place in Las Vegas, but nothing has been confirmed yet by the UFC.
