Eric Reynolds Calls Nick Newell No Champion

Eric Reynolds lost to Nick Newell at the end of 2012 with a first round submission. The win made Newell the new XFC lightweight champion, but he never got a chance to defend it. Newell left the promotion for a better deal with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF).

“It was kind of like a coward move and I don’t consider him the champion,” said Reynolds to MMA Weekly. “Yeah, he beat me, but he’s never defended the belt, so he’s no champion.”

Newell’s WSOF debut is set for July or August.

Reynold returns at XFC 24 against Kevin Forant. In his career, Forant is 5-0 with four stoppages. Whoever wins the fight, Reynolds feels should be the new No. 1 contender.

XFC 24 comes from the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, FL and airs on AXS TV.
