Former WEC champion Urijah Faber believes the exposure provided by competing on the debut of FOX Sports 1 can help his career. However, the choice of opponent, has Faber feeling a little uneasy.
“The California Kid” will meet Yuri Alcantara in August at UFC on FS1: Shogun vs. Sonnen from Boston. Faber has posted consecutive submission victories already this year.
“I’ve got mixed feelings,” said Faber, while appearing on “UFC Tonight” Tuesday. “It’s huge to be on the new channel for the first fight, but this opponent is someone nobody really knows about.”
Alcantara, though, does provide a stiff challenge. He owns a 27-4 record, which includes 12 knockouts and 12 more wins via submission – something Faber is well aware of.
“The guy has earned what he’s got,” he said. “I don’t choose my fights. If someone asks me to fight in the Octagon, I have a hard time turning down fights.”
