Happy Wednesday, fight fans. We’ve got some interesting stories to help get you through your hump day, including the latest on the return of UFC champions Georges St Pierre and Jon Jones, and a long sit-down with Vitor Belfort concerning his TRT use. We’ll also take a look at the movie Foxcatcher, which is Hollywood’s take on the life and death of US Olympic wrestling paragon Dave Schultz. There’s no reason to tarry, so here are your headlines:
• GSP is slated to return in October to defend the UFC welterweight championship against top contender Johny “Big Rig” Hendricks. No official event or date is set as of yet, but we’ll keep our ear to the ground.
• Jones is also expected to compete again this fall and will reportedly put his title on the line against the fighting pride of Sweden, Alexander Gustafsson. The fight has not been officially announced but barring unforeseen circumstances, Gustafsson should be the next challenger for the UFC light-heavyweight crown.
• You can find Belfort’s lengthy interview on TRT here. It’s a very thorough and in-depth conversation, so instead of trying to summarize I’ll just tell you to click through. At the end of the day, though, I think the TRT debate somewhat misses the larger point, which is illegal PED use in MMA.
• MMAFrenzy takes a detailed look at Foxcatcher, which is expected to release later this year. It’s definitely a film that I’ll be checking out, and if you’re at all interested, this piece will get you up to speed.
