Jake Shields is able to walk around with six losses to his 27 wins. Of the few defeats, Shields wants retribution from Jake Ellenberger more than anyone else. Shields losing his dad weeks before the fight weighed heavy on the loss.
“For me, I feel like that’s the only loss I’ve had that needs to be avenged, for several reasons,” said Shields to Bloody Elbow. “Of course, he won that fight, and I’m not going to say that he didn’t, but I just feel like things should have gone differently and I would like another shot at that.”
Ellenberger took a 53 second stoppage in the first round to hand Shields back-to-back losses. The other one came from welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
In his last fight, Shields was suspended for a failed drug test. The substance was not disclosed. That August win over Ed Herman became a no contest. He returns against Tyron Woodley at UFC 161 from the MTS Centre this Saturday, June 15.
Ellenberger is on a two fight win streak and meets Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8. It’s July 27 from the KeyArena in Seattle, WA.
