When Quinton “Rampage” Jackson signed with Bellator, it was almost a lock that the former UFC light heavyweight champion would enter the tournament. According to Jackson, he’d rather avoid the tournament.
“I don’t know, I’m not looking forward to tournaments,” said Jackson on The MMA Hour. “I don’t think I’m doing tournaments. But I’m a team player. If they think having me do a tournament will help with ratings, I’ll do a tournament.”
A theme of Bellator is that fighters earn their title fight and aren’t given one. If Jackson doesn’t enter the tournament, he might not get a title shot. Then again, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney could change the rules.
As of now, several shows will air on Spike TV featuring Jackson, as he prepares for his debut. Speculation is that he will fight at some point in Season 9, which starts in September.
Jackson left the UFC when he finished his contract for them, losing his last three in a row.
