Say goodbye to Bellator on Thursday. Starting with Season 9, on September 7, Bellator will debut on Saturday. Then, the promotion will air on Friday from 9-11 p.m. ET for the remainder of the season. Sports Illustrated confirmed the news with Spike TV President Kevin Kay.
Bellator debuted on Spike TV with Season 8 in January of this year.
With UFC on FS1 taking place mostly on Wednesdays, Kay made the call to change Bellator’s TV slot.
“I don’t want to see Bellator going head to head with the UFC,” said Kay to Sports Illustrated. “I don’t think that makes any sense for fans. No matter who would win in that scenario, you don’t want to not give the fans the choice to watch both.”
Bellator will hold three events before Season 9 as part of their 2013 monthly Summer Series. The first show is June 19 from the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, OK and features Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Seth Petruzelli.
