Happy Monday, fight fans. We’re looking to get your week off to a good start by checking out today’s top stories. We’ve got highlights from last Saturday’s UFC on Fuel 10 event (in case you missed it), Thiago Silva’s 6-figure weekend, and Fabricio Werdum talking about his UFC title aspirations. We’ve also got an extended preview of this week’s UFC 161, which takes place this coming Saturday night in Winnipeg. Here are your headlines:
• You can check out the UFC on Fuel 10 highlights here. It was a great card for finishes, with nearly every fight ending in a submission. I think part of that has to do with the great Brazilian crowd, which urges the fighters to go hard and really try to put on a show.
• One fight that did not end via submission, though, was Thiago Silva vs Rafael Cavalcante. Silva came away with a crushing TKO victory over “Feijao” that netted him $100k in bonuses. Let’s just hope Silva’s post-fight drug screening comes back clean so he can keep all of that hard-earned cash.
• Werdum says he is willing to wait for a title shot and would be open to doing a season of “The Ultimate Fighter” in Mexico with UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. The UFC has always made Latin America a priority in its marketing efforts, so the idea could eventually grow wings. But Werdum may have to be patient, because Velasquez’s next title defense will likely come against archrival Junior Dos Santos.
• Fighters.com has a new extended preview of UFC 161: Evans vs Henderson. The main event has the makings of one of the year’s best fights; both Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson are coming off closely contested decision losses, but a dramatic KO or submission victory could propel either man back to the forefront of the light-heavyweight division.
