When Antônio Rogério Nogueira pulled out of his rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua due to an injury, UFC officials needed a quick replacement. Glover Teixeira was offered the spot, though he declined because of a broken hand.
“They searched my manager and asked if I could replace [Nogueira], but denied because my hand is still sore,” said Teixeira TATAME.
The UFC eventually pulled Rua from UFC 161. He now faces Chael Sonnen in the main event of FS1 1 on August 17. It comes from the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
Teixeira entered the UFC with 15 straight wins and has taken four under their name. He earned a decision over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and submitted James Te Huna this year. The light heavyweight has no official return date.
