Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal Wises Up On Spinning Strikes

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal seemed like a lock to win the Season 8 light heavyweight tournament for Bellator. All was smooth, until a spinning backfist by Emanuel Newton knocked Lawal out cold and removed him from the tournament.

In his return, Lawal knows Seth Petruzelli will be looking for a similar finish, but the former Strikeforce champion won’t allow for a repeat.

“The thing is, he will try that spinning s—,” said Lawal to “Spinning backfist, spinning back kicks and wheel kicks, and spinning back elbows. I ain’t having that no more. You try some spinning s— on me, you’re gonna fail. That’s the trend now, but that s— ain’t gonna work on me no more.”

It worked wonders for Newton who went on to win the tournament and earn a title shot.

Petruzelli seeks to improve his 1-1 Bellator record when they meet in the 2013 Summer Series.

The light heavyweights take part in a four person tournament that begins at Bellator 96 on June 19. They are the main event, which comes from the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, OK. Like last season, Spike TV airs the main card.
