The rising welterweight revealed that he doesn’t speak about title shots based off the chance it might come back and bite him in the rear.
“Before the fight, I can’t say too much, plus I think it’s very bad luck if you start talking about title shots,” said Maia to MMA Junkie. “First, I have a pretty tough opponent, so the main thing is to win this fight right now.”
The opponent is Josh Koscheck, who unsuccessfully challenged twice for the welterweight championship. Koscheck will look to snap a two fight losing skid.
They are set for UFC 163 on August 3. It comes from Brazil’s HSBC Arena.
