BJ Penn, UFC On FOX Sports 1, MMA In Connecticut: The Morning News Roundup – 6.6.13

It’s been a big week for news so far, and the hits just keep on coming in our Thursday edition of the roundup. Today we’ve got the latest on BJ Penn, a list of announced fights for UFC on FOX Sports 1, and another victory in the battle for MMA legalization. Plus we’ll follow up on Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’s switch to Bellator and the opportunities it’s bringing to the former UFC champ. Here are the headlines:

– The jury is still out on whether Penn will fight again, but if he does it will be at 155 pounds. UFC President Dana White recently said he hoped the former two-division UFC champion would retire, but Penn has always been the type to do things his own way. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for “the Prodigy”.

– UFC on FOX Sports 1: Sonnen vs Shogun appears set and it looks amazing. The event is scheduled to take place on August 17 in Boston.

– Connecticut has become the 49th state to legalize MMA. It was also announced that the sport is now legal in all of Canada, having previously been confined only to certain parts. This leaves New York as the last major hurdle to full legalization.

– It was announced on Tuesday that Rampage had signed with Bellator, and he provided more details surrounding the arrangement in yesterday’s press conference. Two things: there appears to be a lot of potential upside here if Rampage can make it happen, and I never would have figured him for a screenwriter!
