Daniel Cormier recently hit the scales and came in at 235 pounds, placing him in the heavyweight division. With wiggle room to make the light heavyweight cut, the final Strikeforce grand prix champion looks to remain active as he continues to shed the pounds.
“The truth of the matter is I am [moving to 205 pounds] now,” said Cormier. “It’s a matter of getting down there and doing it in the correct way. I wanna fight because I don’t want to sit on the shelf.”
The heavyweight already spent 18 months on the sidelines when he broke his hand for Strikeforce.
Cormier is 2-0 this year, taking his UFC debut against former champion Frank Mir. He has no return date or idea on what division it might come from. Cormier expects to reach light heavyweight by the years end.
