In what’s been long overdue, Josh Barnett returns to the UFC after an 11 year hiatus. With his presence, Barnett feels the division is at its best.
“I thought the way things were going, the UFC trying to build its heavyweight division to epic status, it was a perfect fit,” said Barnett on Inside MMA. “They’re just going to keep lining up victims and I’m going to keep the guy at the morgue busy.”
Barnett was the UFC heavyweight champion a long time ago. One drug test for steroids was enough to send him packing. Barnett would compete across the planet, including time in PRIDE, Affliction and Strikeforce before resigning with the UFC.
In his Octagon return, Barnett takes on longtime UFC fighter and former champion Frank Mir.
The heavyweights are on the main card of UFC 164 on August 31. It comes from the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI.
