UFC president Dana White had some choice words for Roy Nelson when he coached on The Ultimate Fighter. Most of the comments were in regards to Nelson’s intelligence.
Now with the heavyweight riding three straight round one wins, he’s been asking for a title shot more frequently. The boss insists that Nelson needs to beat at least one Top 5 guy.
“Is knocking off these guys ranked six through 10, but when he gets to fighting the top five guys, he can’t do the same thing,” said White on Yahoo! Sports. “You’re not going to get a title shot for beating No. 6 and No. 8. You have to beat the top guys.”
Right now the No. 1 contender is Junior dos Santos, who is believed to get a title shot before the year ends.
Since taking his third consecutive win, Nelson returns to the Octagon quickly as he meets Stipe Miocic at UFC 161. Another impressive win could place Nelson in title contention.
UFC 161 is from Canada’s MTS Centre on June 15. The heavyweights are on the main card.
