Bellator has signed another former UFC fighter in John Alessio. The welterweight is expected to debut in Season 9, which starts in September. It’s believed that he’ll be returning to lightweight.
The Canadian announced the deal on his Facebook account with the following message:
“Very excited for this new chapter in my fight career. Pumped to fight live on Spike TV for all of you!”
Alessio joined the UFC for a second time in 2012 with close to 50 pro fights to his name. He lost a pair of decisions to Mark Bocek and Shane Roller. In his return to the Indy scene, he went to a no contest with Dave Mazany due to an accidental eye poke for AFC out of Canada.
No opponent or exact date for Alessio’s debut is known. His signing comes a day after Bellator inked Bubba Jenkins to a long term deal.
