Alexander Gustafsson believes he is the No. 1 contender to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. And, while nothing has been presented to him in the form of a contract, he feels it is just a matter of time.
“He wants to fight me, and I want to fight him,” said Gustafsson, in a recent interview with MMAFighting.com. “(The UFC hasn’t) offered me the fight yet. I’m just really hoping to get some answers soon.”
Gustafsson was forced out of a bout with Gegard Mousasi recently due to a cut suffered in training. Since that time, Jones has defeated Chael Sonnen and made it known of his interest in facing “The Mauler.”
However, there has yet to be any definitive news from Camp Jones in regards to his return from a toe injury. He has been posting on Twitter that he could either return soon, or take a long break for likely surgery.
“I’m not going to be quiet anymore, I really want this fight,” Gustafsson added. “I really want to fight Jones. It’s on. It’s on. I will do anything I can to make it happen.”
