Brendan Schaub-Matt Mitrione Friendship Ends When Octagon Door Shuts

Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione have remained friends since their time on The Ultimate Fighter season 10. Neither won that season, but both remain on the UFC payroll.

It was Mitrione who informed Schaub of their pending battle, through several phone calls in the middle of the night.

“I love Matt, he knows this,” said Schaub on the Rick Lee channel. “I wish I could fight any other heavyweight, but, you just can’t. One thing I can guarantee you is that Matt and I will put on a show. And I told him, ‘Look, I’m going to sign the contract and we can still text and whatever you want to do, but, once I step into the Octagon, it’s on. I’m not your friend in here.’”

Schaub got his first win in almost two years with a decision against Lavar Johnson in February.

Mitrione returns following a short suspension for breaking the UFC code of conduct after making comments about transgender fighter Fallon Fox.

The heavyweights are looking at the preliminary end of UFC on FOX 8. It’s July 27 from the KeyArena in Seattle, WA.
