Jon Fitch Doesn’t Feel Held Down By WSOF

When Jon Fitch debuts for the World Series of Fighting (WSOF), he wants to stick it to the UFC. The former UFC welterweight No. 1 contender didn’t seem to enjoy his final stretch with the promotion.

“I’m going to show everybody what I’m capable of with support behind me,” said Fitch to Bleacher Report. “It’s going to be really nice to fight for an organization that is pushing and promoting me instead of trying to hold me back and put me down.”

Fitch was released with a handful of other fighters in late February. The NCAA Division I wrestler quickly signed with the WSOF. Following the release, Fitch said he felt it coming.

In Fitch’s WSOF debut, he takes on Josh Burkman in the main event. They’ve met before, as Fitch secured a win using the rear-naked choke under the UFC name in 2006.

WSOF 3 is June 14 and comes from Las Vegas, NV. The main card airs on the NBC Sports Network.
