Ed Soares, the manager for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, denied reports that “The Spider” was injured and withdrawing from a planned main event fight in July vs. Chris Weidman.
“Not true,” said Soares, in an interview with MMAWeekly.com. “I just spoke with him.”
UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman takes place July 6 from Las Vegas and will mark the first title defense for the Brazilian since he finished Chael Sonnen last July. He did compete in October, at light heavyweight, and bested Stephan Bonnar.
Weidman has not fought since July when he downed Mark Munoz. Surgery kept him on the sidelines for the duration of 2012.
