Former WEC lightweight champion Gabe Ruediger is 24 hours from his retirement bout. Ruediger calls it a career that lasted 11 years, which included time in the UFC.
“I’ve had a lot of ups and quite a few downs too,” said Ruediger on MMA Junkie Radio. “But I’ve been fighting for 11 years, and I’ve gone through two major surgeries. It’s time to move on to other avenues. I’m pretty set on being done with it, but I’m OK with that.”
Ruediger had his neck fused in 2008 and back surgery in 2011. He closes out his career when he meets Scott Catlin for BAMMMA USA: Badbeat 9. They meet from The Commerce Casino in CA.
After going 0-2 in his second UFC stint, Ruediger was released. He hasn’t picked up a win since July 2010.
