Georges St-Pierre, Johny Hendricks, Glover Teixeira: The Morning News Roundup – 5.28.13

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the roundup. It’s always tough to come back to work after a long weekend, but at least we’ve got you covered on today’s top stories in the world of MMA. It’s all about the belts in today’s roundup, as UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre talks about fighting Johny Hendricks in his next title defense (and Hendricks responds), Glover Teixeira talks UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson discusses his upcoming match with newly crowned #1 contender TJ Grant. Here are your headlines:

• GSP says he has settled on fighting Hendricks next and is “100%” sure that Chris Weidman will defeat UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. A superfight between St-Pierre and Silva has been often discussed, and while Anderson has expressed interest on a number of occasions, Georges has been non-committal. Who knows if the fight will ever happen but if both champions manage to defend, the drama will no doubt continue on for awhile longer.

• Hendricks has been clamoring to fight St-Pierre for a long while now and makes no secret about his plans for the fight. It’s tough to pick against GSP, considering he’s fought almost every type of fighter and always manages to come out on top, but Hendricks has the kind of one-shot, fight-ending power that makes for a very dangerous opponent.

• Teixeira says he’s itching to surprised that Grant was able to defeat Gray Maynard so easily and will have to spend some time learning about his new Canadian opponent. Although he has been largely unheralded up until now, Grant has smashed his way through the UFC lightweight division on the way to a 5-0 record since moving down and may prove to be Henderson’s toughest test to date.
