Khabib Nurmagomedov missed weight for his meeting with Abel Trujillo at UFC 160 and as a result forfeited part of his purse.
Prior to the official weigh-in, Nurmagomedov approached Trujillo backstage to apologize ahead of time and extended his hand. Nurmagomedov claims the action was not reciprocated, resulting in shoving at the weigh-in.
“It was a human mistake,” said Nurmagomedov through a translator to MMA Fighting. “I thought I had enough time to cut the weight for this fight. In my homeland respect means a lot by [shaking hands] and at the weigh-in he kind of butted me with his head.”
At 20-0, Nurmagomedov has won all four of his UFC fights since debuting in January of last year. He’s finished Kamal Shalorus and Thiago Tavares.
Trujillo was handed his first UFC defeat and stands at 1-1. He stopped Marcus LeVesseur in his other fight in December.
