A lighter Jeremy Stephens has found a new home at featherweight, after spending his entire eight year career as lightweight. At UFC 160, Stephens earned a decision opposite a bloody Estevan Payan.
“I kind of cringed inside the Octagon,” said Stephens to MMA Fighting. “Blood kind of dripped in my ear. It’s part of the game. Props to the kid, but he’s just fighting me at the wrong time.”
Stephens needed the win bad as he was looking to snap a three fight losing streak. It was his first win since June 2011.
Payan was making his UFC debut, following a pair of Strikeforce wins. His last fight was a win against Mike Bravo on the final Strikeforce show.
UFC 160 was opened by the featherweights.
