Cain Velasquez threw a perfectly-timed left-right combo, dropping Antonio Silva and earning his first title defense at UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2 Saturday night.
Velasquez, who defeated Junior dos Santos last year to become a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, was unable to successfully defend the belt the first time around.
The former Arizona State University wrestling standout had little trouble doing just that this time, landing lefts and rights to a downed “Bigfoot” before the ref could step in. Silva protested the finish, but the referee gave him ample time to do something.
“I don’t think about defending the title, I think about fighting the best,” Velasquez said.
Velasquez landed 18 significant strikes in the minute-plus of action, while Silva hit him just twice. He celebrated with his wife and AKA teammate Daniel Cormier after the bout.
