Thiago Silva doesn’t agree with the stance on marijuana in the sport, but follows the rules as it’s his source of income.
“A lot of guys, they like to drink,” said Silva to BJPenn.com. “I don’t drink, I like to smoke. I don’t smoke anymore because I really can’t, but I used to a lot because it helps me to relax. I don’t think it’s fair because it doesn’t change your performance.”
The use of marijuana has cost Silva at least one UFC win, maybe even two. His UFC 125 and UFC on FUEL TV 6 wins were overturned to contests due to some issues.
The first time, Silva got caught tampering with a urine sample. He took a one year suspension for that. The November win came back for marijuana metabolites and cost the light heavyweight more money and a six month suspension.
In his return, it’s Silva vs. Rafael Cavalcante at UFC on FUEL TV 10 on the main card. That’s June 8 from Brazil’s Ginásio Paulo Sarasate.
