Alistair Overeem’s return to the Octagon will not take place at UFC 164 as originally expected. Instead, the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion will meet Travis Browne at UFC on FS1 1 on August 17.
MMAjunkie.com first reported news of the fight, and also confirmed that it is not scheduled to be the main event. The card will mark the debut of FOX Sports 1 as a network, and the UFC has promised to fill the fight card with incredible bouts.
Overeem (36-12) has split his two UFC bouts, defeating Brock Lesnar and falling to Antonio Silva. He was scheduled to meet Junior dos Santos this coming weekend, but a training injury knocked him out.
Browne (14-1-1) rebounded from his first pro defeat to topple Gabriel Gonzaga earlier this year. His lone loss came at the hands of Silva, the current No. 1 contender.
