UFC president Dana White informed MMAjunkie.com Tuesday that interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao is officially out of the main event of UFC 161: Barao vs. Wineland.
White said the fighter suffered torn ligaments in his foot during training and doctors would not clear him to compete on June 15 from the MTS Centre in Canada.
The card currently includes key light heavyweight showdowns between Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
No word yet on if a replacement will be found for Eddie Wineland, who was expected to face Barao. Urijah Faber did offer his services recently if the UFC wanted to pair the two up again.
