Benson Henderson might be in possession of the UFC lightweight title, but Gray Maynard doesn’t think he deserves the belt. Several of Henderson’s fights were razor close as Maynard thinks he lost both times to Frankie Edgar and his recent one to Gilbert Melendez.
“I think he has three bouts that could’ve gone either/or, that were very close,” said Maynard on The MMA Hour. “And to be honest I scored three of them to the other guy — the two Edgar’s and Gil. But it could’ve gone either way.”
As for Maynard, he looks for another lightweight title shot after being unsuccessful in toppling Edgar during their trilogy. Maynard takes on TJ Grant at UFC 160, with the winner possibly getting the next title shot.
UFC 160 is May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
