Tuesday is here again, and with it comes another edition of the roundup. Today’s news includes Rory MacDonald talking title aspirations and his relationship with UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, a potential next fight for Urijah Faber, and former UFC fighter Matt Riddle finding a new home. Here are the headlines:
• MacDonald says he has no interest in fighting GSP because the two are friends and training partners. The 23-year-old Canadian standout, currently ranked #3 in the UFC welterweight division, is scheduled to fight Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FOX in July. A win over Ellenberger would likely put MacDonald in line for a title shot if he wants it, so it will be interesting to see if he changes his tune down the road.
• Faber says he’s open to the possibility of filling in for Renan Barao at UFC 161. Barao is the UFC interim bantamweight champion and was scheduled to face Eddie Wineland before dropping out due to injury. Here’s my question: does a win make Faber the “interim interim” 135 pound champion?
• Riddle has been signed by Bellator to compete in its latest welterweight tournament. He is a solid addition to the promotion’s stable, which includes talented fighters like Ben Saunders and Paul Daley.
