Former WEC champion Urijah Faber has become a constant fill-in when the UFC needs someone. So, despite saying after a win over Scott Jorgensen that he’d like some time off, Faber is back at it.
“The California Kid” told MMAMania.com on Monday that, if the reports of Renan Barao’s injury are true, he would be willing to step in and fight Eddie Wineland at UFC 161: Barao vs. Wineland.
The card is set for June 15 from Canada and was expected to feature the main event fight for the interim UFC bantamweight title.
“I just found out and from what it sounds like, we’ve got the champ injured and now the interim champ is hurt,” Faber said. “This sucks. No one has reached out to me about filling in, but if the opportunity comes knocking, I’ll definitely consider it.”
Faber previously defeated Wineland via decision back at UFC 128. He has won two straight bouts by submission, choking out both Jorgensen and Ivan Menjivar.
