Matt Riddle will debut for Bellator as part of their Season 9 welterweight tournament.
“I had so many options after I left the UFC, but knowing that I was able to compete in a tournament against guys like Paul Daley, Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima, signing with Bellator was an easy decision,” said Riddle. “This division is just so stacked, and being able to fight in a tournament makes it even better. Bellator is doing a lot of great things right now, and I want to be a part of it.”
Initially, Riddle signed with Legacy FC, though Bellator bought out the contract with undisclosed details. He was released by the UFC following two drug tests coming back for marijuana within a year that resulted in fines and suspensions. Riddle has argued the punishments since he possess a marijuana license out of Nevada.
Bellator’s Season 9 starts in September. The official tournament brackets haven’t been made public.
