Vitor Belfort vs. Luke Rockhold
We’ve arrived at the main event, and if the weigh-ins and pre-fight press conference have given us any indication, this should be a war, as former UFC champion Vitor Belfort (22-10) welcomes the final Strikeforce middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold (10-1), to the Octagon. Leon Roberts will oversee the action.
Round 1: A very serious Rockhold, and equally serious Belfort, and we have no glove touch. Rockhold stalking Belfort, looking for an opening, and slips. He quickly gets to his feet and is back on the stalk. Belfort catches Rockhold with a solid right and ties him up against the fence. Rockhold seems to have eased up a bit after that attack, looking more calm now. It feels like Rockhold wants Belfort over-anxious, maybe looking to catch him coming in unprotected. Belfort lands a spinning back kick and pounces, finishing Rockhold with a flurry and an “OH MY GOD” from Kenny Florian. The crowd goes crazy and Rockhold is slow to get to his feet.
