UFC On FX 8: Paulo Thiago Vs. Michel Prazeres

Paulo Thiago vs. Michel Prazeres

Veteran Paulo Thiago (14-5) looks to snap a two-fight losing skid in the welterweight division when he welcomes Michel Prazeres (16-0) to the UFC. The referee in charge will be Mario Yamasaki.

Round 1: Interesting for Thiago here, as Prazeres is making his debut on somewhat short notice and is providing a stiff test for Thiago, who needs a win badly. Prazeres catches a big kick attempt and makes Thiago pay with a right. None of those much-talked about “Octagon jitters” for Prazeres, who is matching Thiago kick-for-kick and punch-for-punch.

Round 2: Prazeres looks to be in incredible shape, as he is the biggest fighter but not looking one bit tired right now. Thiago catches him with a knee-right combo that drops Prazeres, following up on the ground and moving into guard. Prazeres reverses, but Thiago right back into control against the cage. Prazeres lands a big shot and is working to gain the advantage on the ground. Thiago quickly reverses back and lands some stiff elbows to the face of Prazeres to conclude the round.

Round 3: Now, after 10 minutes, Prazeres seems to be a little winded. Maybe that’s from the late-round attack by Thiago. Prazeres gets the better of a quick exchange, as Thiago clinches and pushes Prazeres against the fence. Another flurry of punches by Prazeres, followed by a combo from the newcomer. Thiago defends a takedown attempt, but Prazeres moves to a double-leg try. Thiago throws a big strike, but that only ignites Prazeres, who lands three straight of his own. With two minutes left, Prazeres is looking like he has a future in the UFC. Thiago with some nice leg kicks, but most of his strikes just don’t seem to be doing any noticeable damage. Just 30 seconds left, and Thiago gets a takedown that could win him the round and fight.
