South Florida Mayors Carlos Hernandez and Michael Pizzi were having a few drinks last month when they debated who was the toughest of the pair. After posing for a mock stare down, they figured to move ahead with the idea of competing in an MMA bout for charity.
“If taking a couple of punches is going to raise money for college scholarships and anti-child obesity efforts, then in my mind, it’s certainly worth it,” said Pizzi to MMA Junkie.
Hernandez plans to raise money for Best Buddies, a non-profit organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
They want to fight sometime over the summer. The two had no problem joking about their weight and age, both of which is well above the average for fighters.
