Nate Diaz, Dana White, UFC On FX 8: The Morning News Roundup – 5.17.13

Happy Friday, fight fans. We’re capping off your work week with Nate Diaz jumping into the Pat Healy marijuana drama, as well as a bevy of content to get you ready for UFC on FX 8, which takes place this Saturday in Brazil. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s go straight into the headlines:

• Diaz took to Twitter to offer sympathy for Healy and express his disdain for Bryan Caraway in true Diaz brother fashion. None too amused by Nate’s choice of words, Dana White made a post on the Underground Forum promising to punish Diaz, which now appears to have been levied in the form of a suspension. I think there’s a case to be made that White is overreacting here, but given the sport’s continued push for mainstream acceptance and past scrutiny over Dana’s own conduct, I’d say his hands are tied.

• The Rebellion Roundtable sits down to discuss the Healy situation.

• In case you missed it, check out the highlights from the UFC on FX pre-fight press conference. And we’ve also got a live stream for today’s weigh-ins, which will take place at 3PM EST.

• MMA Frenzy has a detailed breakdown of Saturday’s Vitor Belfort vs Luke Rockhold main event, and it’s hard to argue against the analysis. Rockhold is probably a bit more polished and well-rounded, and a win would likely place him next in line for a shot at the UFC middleweight championship. But Vitor is always dangerous, and his speed has put down plenty of opponents. These two have been at each other’s throats for weeks now, so I think we can expect a hard fought battle regardless of who turns out to be the better man.
