Bibiano Fernandes Won’t Be Happy As World’s Greatest Bantamweight

Bibiano Fernandes is a former DREAM featherweight champion and currently is in possession of their bantamweight title. Considered one of the top bantamweights overseas, Fernandes wouldn’t place himself as the best because then improvement is lost in the shuffle.

“If I consider myself number one, what would be left for me,” said Fernandes to MMA Fighting. “You can never stop learning and never stop with new challenges. The day I consider myself the best is the day I’m through because I compete for the love of the competition.”

Over the summer, it looked like the UFC had signed Fernandes but nothing came of it. Instead, he opted to sign with ONE FC. He took a decision over Gustavo Falciroli at ONE FC 6. Since that summer win, he took a first round stoppage over DEEP’s bantamweight champion Yoshiro Maeda in a non-title fight.

He returns to competition at ONE FC Rise to Power against Koetsu Okazaki. They will go at it for the interim bantamweight gold.

The show is May 31 from the SM Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines. The show airs across all of Asia and the rest of us can watch it by clicking here.
