For former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, next Saturday’s fight with Mark Hunt is all about getting back on track and towards another title fight.
The two will meet in the co-main event of UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2, on the same night when Cain Velasquez defends his title against Antonio Silva.
After falling victim to 25 minutes of punishment at the hands of Velasquez, it took “Cigano” quite a while to rebound mentally.
“It was very difficult for me to accept my loss to Cain,” he said during a conference call on Tuesday. “Cain was better than me, he fought better than me. That was his day.”
Dos Santos, who has suffered just two defeats in his career, earned the UFC heavyweight title by finishing Velasquez back in 2011. He believes, down the road, the two will square off again – possibly a number of times, in fact.
“Sure, Cain and I are going to fight each other many times throughout our careers,” dos Santos said. “We are, both of us, at another level (in the heavyweight division).”
