World Series of Fighting president Ray Sefo and executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz have put together a four-fighter tournament to crown a middleweight champion. MMAFighting.com first reported news of the upcoming event.
Jesse Taylor, Dave Branch, Danilo Villefort and Elvis Mutapcic will all compete to become the first-ever WSOF middleweight champion. One semifinal is set for WSOF 4 on August 10, the other in September. The winners of those two fights will than square off in December.
Taylor (26-9) is a former Ultimate Fighter contestant who has won six fights in a row. Mutapcic (13-2) was the Maximum Fighting Championship 185-pound titleholder before leading the promotion and is on a five-fight win streak.
Branch (12-3) has won both of his WSOF bouts, while Villefort (14-4) earned a win in his debut with the promotion.
