Nik Lenz: American Top Team Hands-On Approach Works

After finding success early in his UFC career, Nik Lentz watched that slowly slip away as he took a pair of losses. Since dropping to featherweight over the summer, Lentz has two wins.

Lentz credited the changed style in his movement to American Top Team in Florida.

“At a lot of other gyms there’s a main coach, but you grow with the other fighters and work with the other fighters to get better,” said Lentz to Sherdog. “At American Top Team, there’s just coaches that are hands-on at all times that are helping you along the way.”

The main two differences in his new team are more coaches and commitment to specialized training. Lentz currently has a wrestling coach, two striking coaches and one for conditioning. There are also about 40 fighters that are often around.

Lentz returns for the second time this year against Hacran Dias at UFC on FX 8 on Saturday, May 18. They close the preliminary card out of Brazil’s Arena Jaraguá.
