Before Pat Curran returns inside the Bellator Cage, he will try his hands at boxing.
“They’re letting me stay active and this is something I really wanted to do,” said Curran to MMA Junkie. “They’re giving me the opportunity to go for it. I want to keep training, and since I’m going to have a little bit of a layoff, I want to jump into boxing and try that out.”
There is no opponent or promotion for his boxing debut. The champion said Bellator gave him permission to compete in another combat sport outside of the promotion.
To open Bellator on Spike TV, Curran successfully defended his title against Patricio “Pitbull” Freire. He ended the season at Bellator 95 with a first round submission over Shahbulat Shamhalaev.
Curran believes he will return to Bellator for Season 9, which starts in September. Daniel Straus is the next contender.
