Daniel Cormier has fought some of the biggest names under the Strikeforce banner and most recently the UFC. Two of his biggest challenges came in former UFC heavyweight champions Josh Barnett and Frank Mir.
Cormier took a five round decision over Barnett to win the Strikeforce grand prix. In his UFC debut, Cormier pounded on Mir to take the win in the co-main event of UFC on FOX 7. The former Olympic wrestler went with Barnett as the more grueling fight.
“It wasn’t a tougher fight than Josh Barnett, and I didn’t take any damage in it like I did with Josh,” said Cormier to Bloody Elbow. “I don’t think he took as many risks as I kind of anticipated, but he never stopped trying to win that fight.”
The win against Mir makes Cormier a perfect 12-0. He has revealed that he plans to remain at heavyweight as the weight cutting would take too much time.
