Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney watched as Michael Chandler made his way into a lightweight championship fight at Bellator 58. Many had doubted he would emerge champion, but he did just that with a fourth round stoppage over Eddie Alvarez.
Now with Dave Jansen’s title shot counting down, Rebney wouldn’t be surprised to see a new lightweight champion.
“Then, of course, we saw what happened with the Alvarez-Chandler fight,” said Rebney on MMA Junkie Radio. “I’m saying the same thing about Dave Jansen. Dave Jansen is the real deal. He can fight at a world-class elite level.”
Chandler will look for his second title defense as he returns to kick off the 2013 Summer Series. He’s undefeated with 11 wins with almost every fight out of Strikeforce and Bellator.
Jansen is a former WEC fighter who is 6-0 for Bellator. His final two tournament fights went to the judges.
They are a go for Bellator 96 from the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, OK. It’s June 19 and airs on Spike TV.
